This is the best kept secret in Quebec. You honestly could not find a better place to stay. Lovely accommodation, amazing food and the very best hosts we have ever experienced. You most definetly should experience this Auberge...and what a beautiful location...looking out over Mount can't get any better than that.

Tonight I went to the Auberge Ste-Catherine-de-Hatley just before sunset. I was seated at a table in the sunroom over-looking Mont Orford, with the city of Magog resting at the base of the mountain. Enjoying a glass of wine, one suggested by the waiter, I watched the sun set behind the mountains. As the sun was slipping out of sight and darkness was setting in, you could see the lights of Magog slowly starting to twinkle in the cold night air.

Dinner began with a Terrine of game on Mesclun salad with house dressing, very nicely presented with a light tasting dressing. The Entrée of Salmon steak with pears and cheese, from Station Compton, also had a nice presentation, with a generous portion of salmon. The combined flavours of cheese, pear and salmon proved very delicious. Dessert was an orange cake with lemon sauce and chocolate drizzle, topped with a hard chocolate lace.

The service was very friendly and the atmosphere relaxing. You did not feel even a bit rushed, as is sometimes the case. The owner and staff proved that language was no problem as they warmly greeted and served their guests in both French and English, accordingly. The prices ranged from $15.00 - $28.00 per person which included appetizer, entrée, dessert and tea or coffee. A glass of wine could be added at $8.00 per glass; some types were just a few dollars more. I would rate this restaurant "excellent" and would highly recommend this beautiful Auberge if you are looking for a special dining experience. RESERVATIONS RECOMMENDED.

Footnote: Upon leaving I toured the restaurant and found separate rooms that would accommodate group parties. On Sunday, Brunch is available at two different sittings: : an early-bird brunch from 8:00am - 9:30 am ($9.00), and one a little later from 9:30am until 2:00pm ($16.00).

An extraordinary stay at Auberge Ste-Catherine de Hatley, dinner was a delight with Chef Melanie Gagnon; we had a very interesting talk about her experiences overseas. Hosted by Mrs. Gagnon and served by her son Gregoire Gagnon. Thank you a 5 stars.
